Vehicles that have achieved level 5 autonomy can do all the driving in all circumstances, removing the need for even a steering wheel and driver’s seat. But achieving level 5 autonomy is not just difficult – it is, according to experts in AI and robotics, next to impossible.
Still, Elon Musk remains confident that Tesla will have the basic functionality for level 5 autonomy complete as early as this year. We’ll have to wait and see as it may come down to whether algorithms have had the same set of experiences to practice being human as humans experience throughout the course of daily life.
